Researchers at the University of British Columbia reported that forensic evidence commonly used in court investigations may be less accurate than previously believed.

The study, released on Monday, examined the reliability of methods such as bloodstain pattern analysis, ballistics and sniffer‑dog searches.

Although forensic techniques are often featured in true‑crime media, the researchers said the scientific reliability of these methods is uncertain.
