The mayor of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension announced on Monday that he is departing Projet Montréal and will serve as an independent councillor.
The opposition party said the mayor was removed from the Projet Montréal caucus prior to his announcement.
Projet Montréal is a municipal political party in Montreal, and borough mayors typically sit with a party on the city council.
