Suffolk County authorities have launched Operation Safe Stop, a campaign reminding drivers that they must stop when a school bus displays its extended red stop sign.
The initiative is intended to protect children boarding or exiting school buses and to cut down on traffic violations, responding to frequent incidents of motorists passing stopped buses that put students at risk.
