Stephanie Stockmar, a breast cancer survivor who carries the BRCA2 gene mutation, took part in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Phoenix on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026.
After learning she has the BRCA2 mutation, she underwent preventive surgeries to lower her risk and joined the walk to inspire others facing similar decisions.
The BRCA2 mutation is associated with a higher chance of developing breast cancer, and preventive surgeries are known to reduce that risk. Community events such as the Making Strides walk aim to increase awareness and support for survivors.
FOX 10 Phoenix reported on the event, with coverage by Desiree Fluellen.
