Gov. Hochul announced on Oct. 5, 2026 that New York State’s free community college program will be broadened to include adults aged 25 to 55 who already hold a degree. The expansion makes the tuition‑free option available to residents of Saratoga and other parts of the state, aiming to help participants retrain for high‑demand occupations.

The change responds to workforce shifts driven by artificial‑intelligence technologies, which are creating a need for new skill sets among workers. By extending the program to a wider age range, the state hopes to equip more New Yorkers with the training required for emerging job markets.
