A University of Washington astronomer working with the Rubin Observatory team has identified a candidate dwarf planet in data from the observatory and noted that November will bring a bright supermoon and the Leonids meteor shower.

The object, detected through the Rubin Observatory's wide‑field sky surveys, is considered a potential new dwarf planet within the solar system.

The Rubin Observatory’s survey capabilities allow researchers to spot distant solar‑system bodies, and the upcoming November night sky will feature the notable supermoon and the annual Leonids meteor display.
