Rainfall at the beginning of October has been unusually low across western Washington, marking the driest start to the month since 2022. The shortfall in precipitation has reduced moisture levels, keeping the wildfire season active in areas west of the Cascade Range.

Washington’s wildfire season usually tapers off after the summer months, but the current dry conditions are extending fire risk well into the fall.
