Stage 4 cancer patients in Ontario voiced disappointment after Health Minister Sylvia Jones changed the province's drug‑funding rules. The amendment was made in response to a court decision that had reversed an out‑of‑province treatment denial.

Ontario's public health plan generally does not pay for cancer drugs given outside the province. A recent court case briefly opened the possibility for such coverage before the rules were revised.

The rule change follows the court ruling that challenged OHIP's denial, a case in which a man previously won a court challenge.
