International Video Store Day was marked in Toronto on Oct. 17, 2026, with movie fans gathering at venues such as Eyesore Cinema to browse and watch DVDs and VHS tapes.
The observance was founded by Daniel Hanna, who launched the day 16 years ago after noting there was no existing celebration for video‑rental stores.
Participants, including movie lover Naama Weingarten, joined other enthusiasts in revisiting the format that once defined home entertainment.
Since its inception as a single Toronto event, International Video Store Day has expanded to video stores across Canada and beyond, reflecting its growing appeal among collectors and nostalgic viewers.
