North Wildwood officials announced that two parallel boardwalk reconstruction projects will commence on October 5, 2026. Work will begin simultaneously on the southern segment stretching from 23rd Avenue to 24½ Avenue and on a northern segment centered around 16th Avenue. The municipality expects both sections to be finished by the Easter holiday in 2027.
The southern effort will replace the aging surface between 23rd and 24½ Avenues, a stretch that sees heavy foot traffic during the summer season. Contractors will remove the existing deck, install new support structures and lay down a modern boardwalk surface designed to meet current coastal standards.
The northern project will address the portion of the promenade near 16th Avenue, an area that provides primary access to several beachfront facilities. Similar construction methods will be used, with demolition of the old walkway followed by installation of new materials that promise greater durability against storm surges and salt‑air corrosion.
Together, the two projects are intended to enhance the overall infrastructure of the North Wildwood beachfront. By providing a smoother, safer walking surface, the upgrades aim to improve beach access for both local residents and the influx of tourists who visit the shore each summer. Completion by Easter 2027 should allow the community to benefit from the improvements before the peak vacation period.
The construction schedule is planned to keep sections open where possible, with temporary pathways installed to maintain pedestrian flow. Officials indicated that the simultaneous approach reduces overall project duration compared with separate phases, allowing the community to enjoy a completed boardwalk sooner.
The upgraded boardwalk is expected to draw more visitors and support local businesses that rely on summer foot traffic, while also providing a safer environment for joggers, cyclists and families strolling along the shore.
