On September 28, 2026, the governors of New Jersey and New York gathered in North Bergen, New Jersey for a ceremony that launched the drilling of a new Hudson River rail tunnel.
The ceremony marked the inaugural start of the Gateway rail tunnel project, which will be the first new tunnel under the Hudson River in 116 years.
