The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on August 25 that Airedale is recalling ventilation fans installed in more than 6,000 school HVAC units across Wildwood and South Jersey. The recall targets fans that could pose a fire hazard because the motor may short‑circuit when exposed to water.
The affected fans are part of heating, ventilation and air‑conditioning systems used in classrooms, gyms and other school facilities. According to the commission, water intrusion can cause the motor windings to fail, creating an electrical spark that could ignite nearby combustible material.
School districts have been instructed to shut down the recalled fans immediately and to arrange for replacement units supplied by Airedale. Administrators are coordinating with the agency to verify which equipment is affected and to schedule installation of compliant fans before the start of the new academic term.
