Wildwood Beach Patrol announced that for the summer of 2026 it will cut back the number of beaches that receive lifeguard coverage, attributing the change to a shortage of qualified lifeguards and to budget constraints.
The adjustment means that fewer beaches in Wildwood, NJ will have lifeguards on duty. The patrol plans to concentrate its limited staff on core locations while other beaches will see reduced or no lifeguard presence.
Patrol officials said the shortage of certified lifeguards has made it difficult to maintain previous staffing levels. At the same time, tighter municipal budgets limit the ability to hire additional personnel or to fund the full complement of lifeguard services that were offered in prior years.
Despite the reduced coverage, the Wildwood Beach Patrol reiterated its commitment to public safety. Beachgoers are advised to remain vigilant, use personal safety precautions, and be aware of the absence of lifeguard supervision at certain sites.
