The advisory follows a noticeable increase in wildlife reports that have highlighted more frequent coyote activity near residential neighborhoods. Police officials say the uptick in observations has raised concerns that the animals could become accustomed to human presence.
Authorities note that feeding wild animals can condition them to associate people with food, which may cause coyotes to lose their natural fear of humans. To prevent this, the department recommends that residents secure garbage, keep pet food indoors, and supervise pets when they are outside.
