Manitoba’s provincial health authority announced it will continue to fund a life‑extending medication for a man with a degenerative disease, after the federal health agency withdrew its earlier recommendation limiting the drug for adults over 25.

The federal agency had previously advised against use of the medication in adults older than 25, a position that would have ended provincial coverage for the patient. Following the agency’s reversal, the province moved to guarantee ongoing access.

The drug is reported to slow the progression of the man’s degenerative condition, and the provincial pledge seeks to keep treatment uninterrupted.
