Manitoba is using thermal‑imaging drones together with environmental DNA testing to locate and control invasive wild pigs across the province.

The animals, which have become a destructive, disease‑carrying pest in recent years, are known to cause ecological damage and pose a health risk.

Provincial officials have turned to these new detection technologies after observing the growing impact of the wild pig population, hoping the combined approach will improve identification and management of the pest.
