A federal jury in Boston awarded $3 million to Lucien in a civil suit against former detective John Brazil after finding the detective fabricated and withheld evidence that led to Lucien’s wrongful conviction.
The jury concluded that Brazil’s misconduct directly caused Lucien to receive a life sentence, and the damages are intended to compensate for the injustice.
While Lucien receives the monetary award, a separate federal lawsuit against the City of Boston remains unresolved.
