Alderman Brendan Reilly announced that the Chicago Avenue Bridge will not reopen as scheduled and is now expected to be operational in the spring of 2027.
The alderman described the planning process for the project as a massive bureaucratic failure.
At the same time, closures of other bridges in downtown and on the North Side continue to disrupt commuters' daily travel.
