The Chicago Department of Public Health announced a pilot program that will provide on‑site childhood lead testing at daycares, schools, libraries, houses of worship and other community sites in six South Side neighborhoods. The effort is scheduled to run for two years, from 2026 through 2028.
The initiative seeks to expand access to lead screening for children in underserved South Side communities, where lead exposure continues to be a persistent health risk in low‑income areas of the city.
