The first stretch of the new Interstate 490 tollway will open to traffic on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24‑25, 2026. The segment runs through the western suburbs of Chicago near O’Hare International Airport, linking the Jane Addams Tollway near Des Plaines with the Tri‑State Tollway in Franklin Park, allowing drivers and truckers to use the new connection.
The opening creates a new link between two major tollways and is intended to ease traffic around O’Hare. Interstate 490 is a multi‑year project that will eventually span the distance between the Jane Addams Tollway and the Tri‑State Tollway, skirting the western edge of the airport.
