NITA announced a 2027 operating budget of $5.02 billion, roughly 15 % higher than the current year, with the goal of expanding bus and rail frequency and improving safety on CTA, Metra and Pace services.
The extra financing will be drawn from tax revenue generated by the NITA Act, and this proposal represents the first time the authority has set its own budget for the transit agencies it now oversees through the Regional Transportation Authority.
