The Houston Zoo transferred its endangered bongo, Harris, to a facility in Taiwan on Oct. 29, 2026. The relocation, which took 32 hours, is intended to give the animal a role in protecting its species.
The transfer is part of a Taiwanese conservation program aimed at preserving the bongo and supporting broader species‑preservation efforts.
