On Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, workers from the Irvine Ranch Water District will begin draining Irvine Lake in Orange County to allow work on the Santiago Creek Dam.

The dam, built in 1933, provides water to nearly one million residents, and the improvement effort has been in planning for roughly a decade. The operation involves construction workers, local anglers and Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner.
