BIXI announced plans to add as many as 120 bike-share stations across Montreal in preparation for the Union Cycliste Internationale Road World Championships scheduled for September 20 to 27, 2026. Among the new locations, roughly 20 will feature a valet service designed to streamline the rental and return process for the influx of visitors expected at the event.
The expansion aims to accommodate the surge in ridership anticipated as the city hosts the international cycling competition. By increasing the network’s capacity, BIXI seeks to provide a reliable, low‑impact transportation option for spectators, athletes, and support staff moving between venues, hotels and other points of interest throughout the week-long championship.
Montreal’s existing bike-share system has been a staple of urban mobility, and the temporary boost in stations reflects the city’s broader strategy to manage large‑scale events without overburdening road traffic. The valet‑service stations will allow users to hand over bicycles for secure storage, reducing the time required for docking and freeing up bikes for subsequent riders.
Officials from BIXI indicated that the additional infrastructure will be operational before the opening day of the championships, ensuring that the full complement of stations is available throughout the event. The deployment includes placement of new docks in high‑traffic zones identified by event planners, such as areas surrounding the main race circuit and popular spectator gathering points.
