A new vegetated alley that captures rainwater was inaugurated at Building 7 in southwest Montreal on Monday, October 19, 2026. The project, undertaken by the Alliance Ruelles bleues-vertes, marks Quebec’s first "sponge alley" designed to collect rainwater and boost urban greenery.
The alliance devoted roughly ten years to develop the concept, with the final three years dedicated to constructing the alley at the site. The initiative aims to serve as a model that can be replicated in other neighborhoods across the province.
