On Tuesday, a lawyer filed a motion in the Superior Court of Quebec in Quebec City requesting that the 127 newly elected members of the Quebec National Assembly take the oath of allegiance to King Charles III, as required by law.

The plaintiff, identified as Lawrence David, contends that the statutory obligation for legislators to swear allegiance to the monarch must be applied to the incoming cohort.

The court heard the arguments on Tuesday, and deliberations continued into the afternoon.
