Mayor Fady Dagher turned down an emergency motion that would have required the chief of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal to appear before Montreal City Council within a week. The motion, filed by the opposition party Projet Montréal, sought answers to serious allegations of misconduct involving officers from two neighbourhood police stations.
Council members rejected the request, leaving the police chief’s appearance unmandated. The motion had been introduced amid concerns over alleged wrongdoing at the two stations, but the mayor’s decision halted the effort to bring the chief before council on the issue.
