On October 29, 2026, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the New York City Department of Sanitation placed the first on‑street Empire garbage bin in Brooklyn Heights, marking the start of the city’s containerized waste program in the area.
The installation is part of a broader rollout that will see more than 700 Empire bins deployed throughout Brooklyn Community District 2, replacing traditional curbside pickup as the city modernizes its trash collection system.
