A coastal resilience project that adds flood barriers to South Battery Park City was completed just as a powerful nor'easter moved into the New York City area.
The Battery Park City Authority, the Battery Conservancy, elected officials and community partners worked together to finish the flood‑mitigation measures before the storm arrived.
The new defenses are intended to shield the neighborhood from flooding that the approaching nor'easter could cause.
