The New York State Department of Health announced that it will eliminate its inventory of misoprostol pills that have passed their expiration date. The disposal plan applies to the entire reserve held by the state.
The stock consists of 150,000 tablets bought in 2023, representing enough material for roughly 12,500 abortion doses and a purchase cost of $112,000. The medication has now expired, leading the state to arrange its destruction.
