The driver and the matron of a New York City school bus have been barred from their duties after six special‑education students were left on the vehicle for more than four hours. The incident occurred when the driver became lost and failed to reach the school, the bus depot, or any other assistance.
During the time the bus was off course, the six students remained on board without contact from school officials. Investigators later reviewed the situation and determined that the driver’s inability to navigate and lack of communication led to the prolonged delay.
As a result of the investigation, both the driver and the matron received suspension pending further action.
