Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced new restrictions that will turn off artificial‑intelligence components in more than 38 student‑facing programs used across New York City public schools, with the changes set to take effect before the start of the upcoming school year.
The city had previously allowed dozens of AI tools to operate in classrooms. Under the new order, those tools will be removed, affecting hundreds of students who currently use the programs.
