The New York City government announced that it is now accepting applications for Open Streets projects scheduled for 2027. The request includes proposals for infrastructure upgrades after the program’s funding was increased in 2026.
The Open Streets initiative, administered by the Mamdani administration, temporarily closes selected streets to enable recreational activities. Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side is among the streets referenced in the announcement.
City officials said the added funding is intended to expand community participation and improve street infrastructure through the upcoming projects.
