Seven people have died and 74 have been seriously injured in vehicle crashes on Brooklyn’s Ocean Parkway over the past five years, and city officials say safety improvements cannot be put in place.
Ocean Parkway was originally laid out by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted as a scenic, tree‑lined thoroughfare. Increased automobile traffic has turned the boulevard into a site of frequent high‑speed collisions.
Mamdani and New York City officials have highlighted the difficulty of implementing safety fixes despite the growing toll of deaths and injuries.
