Trump tariffs add $1 billion to NYC transit vehicle costs

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority reported that tariffs imposed by the Trump administration have raised the cost of New York City’s new subway cars and buses by $1 billion.

The increase is attributed to U.S. tariffs on imported components, which have lifted expenses for vehicles assembled in the United States.

The MTA noted that prices for the newly ordered subway cars and buses have climbed since the administration reinstated tariffs on foreign-made parts.
