The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reported that testing of water bodies in Pennsylvania and New Jersey showed the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly known as forever chemicals. The agency found PFAS in 96% of the Pennsylvania waterways examined and in 91% of those tested in New Jersey.

The Pennsylvania sites included locations in Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs, while the New Jersey sampling focused on the South Jersey region. The results indicate that PFAS contamination is widespread across the water bodies in these areas.
