An 18‑month‑old boy in Gilbert, Arizona, was discovered alive in a hospital cold storage room after a physician had pronounced him dead following a pool accident. He had been in the cold room for nearly five hours before staff realized he was still breathing.

Hospital cold rooms are used to preserve organs, and the child was placed there as part of standard procedure after the incident. The family’s attorney said a complaint will be filed, and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office is considering a review of the case.
