On October 1, 2026 at 10:55 a.m., residents Edward and Thomas reported seeing a coyote near the intersection of 47th Avenue and Charlestown Street in West Seattle. A second sighting was reported last week in the 3200 block of 45th Avenue near Madison Street.
These two reports mark the first confirmed coyote sightings in West Seattle in 25 years, a notable occurrence in an area where the animal is otherwise uncommon.
