Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., has begun using artificial intelligence to predict spikes in pediatric emergency patients. The system aims to help staff manage the waiting room before it becomes overcrowded, reducing the chance that families leave without being seen and shortening the time they spend waiting for care.

The initiative comes as long wait times in emergency departments remain a nationwide challenge. By applying AI to its pediatric ER, Children’s National hopes to address this issue locally.
