Amtrak and the Virginia Railway Express have announced a nine‑day suspension of rail service between Washington, D.C., and Virginia. The shutdown will run from Friday, October 16, 2026, through Sunday, October 24, 2026, while crews replace tracks beneath Union Station.
The pause in service affects all Amtrak and VRE trains that normally pass through Union Station, temporarily disrupting travel between the capital and Virginia.
