Councilmember Robert White announced he will vacate his District of Columbia Council seat on Monday, November 2, 2026, to become eligible for the congressional office held by Eleanor Holmes Norton.
The declaration was made outside the John A. Wilson Building after a legal opinion from the District of Columbia attorney general indicated that resignation is required for eligibility.
White, the Democratic nominee for the congressional race, said he will step down following the attorney general’s ruling.
