Karen, a Washington-area driver, told NBC4 Washington that a round‑trip on the I‑66 express lanes cost her more than $100 after tolls rose during peak periods.
The express lanes outside the Beltway in Northern Virginia now charge $30, $60 or $80 for the longest trips when traffic is heaviest, according to the driver’s report.
The variable‑price system is intended to manage congestion, but the recent spikes have prompted complaints about the expense from motorists.
