Metro officials announced a proposal to increase fares for both Metrorail and Metrobus services, adjust parking fees, and possibly end late‑night discounts while eliminating the existing $3.75 fare cap. The agency said inflation has pushed operating expenses higher, prompting the review of its pricing structure.
Current Metrorail fares range from $2.25 to $6.75, and the proposal would raise them to $2.50 to $7.50. Metrobus fares, presently $2.25, would increase to $2.50 under the plan. The $3.75 fare cap would be removed as part of the changes.
The adjustments are being considered as the transit system faces a budget strain from higher operating costs.
