On Oct. 3, 2026, a National Guard member deployed to Washington, D.C., was taken into custody after U.S. Park Police stopped the vehicle and discovered an unauthorized firearm.
The service member has been charged with illegal firearm possession, a violation because carrying a weapon is not permitted for the guard member while on duty in the capital.
