The National Zoo, together with the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, announced a public naming contest for a four‑month‑old female red panda cub born at the institute’s campus in Front Royal, Virginia.

The cub’s parents are a three‑year‑old mother named Keahi and a seven‑year‑old father named Rocket, and the newborn joins three other red panda cubs that were born earlier this year as part of the institute’s breeding program for the endangered species.

Members of the public are invited to submit and vote on a name for the new cub, with the contest organized by the National Zoo.
