Police and other authorities issued a Purple Alert and began a search for a nonverbal 16‑year‑old girl with autism who was last seen early Friday in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The alert is used to mobilize resources for children with disabilities who are missing, and search efforts are now underway in the area.
