Police and other authorities are conducting a search for a nonverbal 16‑year‑old girl with autism who was last seen early Friday in Silver Spring, Maryland. A Purple Alert has been issued for her disappearance.

The Purple Alert system is a public safety notification used specifically when a child with a disability goes missing.
