Two Virginia state senators, Russet Perry and Danica Roem, have filed legislation that would prohibit the construction of new data centers in the state for a three‑year period.

The bill would take effect on July 1 2027 and remain in force until July 1 2030, giving lawmakers time to develop environmental protections for such facilities.

The proposal is being introduced ahead of the 2027 General Assembly session as part of a broader effort to address the environmental impact of data‑center expansion.
