Statistics Canada reported that the value of building permits issued across Canada in August rose by $1.1 billion, reaching a total of $13.6 billion.

The increase was largely attributed to robust activity in the residential construction segment.

Building permits serve as a primary gauge of upcoming construction work, and the strength in the housing market contributed to the higher overall figure for the month.
