The two pilots will receive an aviation distinction award and be inducted into Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame in Gimli, Manitoba on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026. The honor marks 43 years since their successful emergency landing of a Boeing 767.

In 1983 a Boeing 767 ran out of fuel and was guided to a former airstrip near Gimli, where it touched down safely with 61 passengers on board. The pilots’ actions prevented a disaster and are being recognized with the Hall of Fame induction.
